Zuffa LLC, spółka będąca współwłaścicielem UFC, chce zastrzec terminy „BMF” i „Baddest Motherfucker” jako znaki towarowe, aby uniemożliwić innym podmiotom wykorzystywanie ich oraz żeby móc na nich zarabiać.
11 września Zuffa LLC, współwłaściciele Ultimate Fighting Championship, złożyli dokumentację, patentową na terminy „BMF” i „Baddest Motherfucker”. Termin ten stał się popularny w MMA, głównie dzięki Nate’owi Diazowi i Jorge Masvidalowi.
Zuffa złożyła wniosek o zastrzeżenie szeregu znaków towarowych związanych z tymi określeniami. Oto podział każdego z nich:

Na podstawie tych wniosków wszystko wskazuje na to, że Zuffa jest zainteresowana tworzeniem i sprzedażą towarów opatrzonych znakiem „BMF” lub słowami „Baddest Motherfucker”.
Znaki te mogą być zastosowane do oznaczenia takich przedmiotów jak obuwie, ubrania, figurki, zabawkowe pasy mistrzowskie, kopie mistrzowskich pasów, akcesoria, a nawet świąteczne ozdoby choinkowe. Co ciekawe, zgłoszenia znaków towarowych wskazują na zamiar wykonania pasów oznaczonych tymi określeniami.
Prezes UFC, Dana White, oświadczył, że chciałby stworzyć specjalny pas „BMF” dla zwycięzcy pojedynku w wadze półśredniej między Jorge Masvidalem i Nate’em Diazem, którzy zmierzą się na gali UFC 244 zaplanowanej na 2 listopada w nowym Jorku. Użycie terminu „BMF” zyskało na popularności w społeczności MMA dzięki niedawnym występom Masvidala i Diaza. To Diaz rozpoczął kampanię na rzecz pojedynku o tytuł „BMF” po tym, jak w zeszłym miesiącu pokonał Anthony’ego Pettisa na UFC 241. Na konferencji prasowej po zakończeniu walki Diaz stwierdził:
„Nikt nie okazuje żadnego uznania za bycie najlepszym zawodnikiem na świecie. Którym jestem, tak jak Masvidal. Jestem najlepszym zawodnikiem sztuk walki. Nie jesteśmy tylko jakimiś „trzymajcie się mnie zapaśnikami”, którzy trzymają cię i mają nadzieję, że wygrają rundę, znajdując lukę do wygrania tych walk i zakładając pas na talii. Teraz walczymy o miano największego skurwiela w tej grze. I on należy do mnie! Dlatego chciałbym go bronić przed Jorge Masvidalem, więc jeśli on chce zostać największym skurwielem, właśnie tak to zrobimy”.
To między innymi dzięki efektownemu zwycięstwu Masvidala w walce z Benem Askrenem na UFC 239, Diaz zwrócił uwagę na Gamebred’a jako kandydata do tej walki.
